Ōwhango Alive proudly welcomes two new sponsors who are supporting predator control in the Ohinetonga Scenic Reserve.
Recently, local residents Kim and Owen Petersen joined us on the Boathole Track to attach personalised name tags to their DOC200 traps. Their sponsorship strengthens our ongoing efforts to protect native birds and invertebrates throughout the reserve.
These contributions help purchase essential lure such as meat, eggs and peanut butter. They also support the regular maintenance required to keep every trap operating effectively year-round.
While tagging the traps, we spotted a striking fungi specimen beside Kim’s trap. Owen enthusiastically dropped to his hands and knees to photograph it. The fungi may be Hygrocybe firma, a colourful reminder of the biodiversity that predator control helps safeguard.
Trap sponsorship costs $50 per year and renews each March. Sponsors choose a trap, have their name displayed on it, and receive catch updates through our newsletter.
