On Sunday, December 10th, Ōwhango Alive celebrated another year of our volunteers putting in the hard yards of predator and weed control, along with a host of other conservation activities.
These include working bees, trap building, school visits, World Rivers Day and lots more besides!
We gathered at the Ōwhango Pavilion and took the opportunity to acknowledge the work of some long term members, for their consistent and generous input over the years.
Lifetime memberships were awarded to Peter Lacy, Colleen Boston, Carol and Bill O’Donnell.
We wouldn’t have been able to achieve the results we have over the last 12 years without the ongoing and consistent support of these good keen folk.
We also awarded a “Trapper of the Year” certificate, for her dedication and attention to detail on the trap line.
Our new chairperson Amber-Krystle Stier and ex chair Mark Fredericks officiated at the formalities and then we all were deliciously catered for by our very own Blue Hill Café, Ōwhango .
We really feel that the team at Blue Hill are part of the Ōwhango Alive team as well – they help sell our calendars and merchandise, plus provide welcome sustenance after working bees, so appreciation goes to all of you, too.
We’re all looking forward to 2025, with some exciting new developments!
