Young Photographers Invited to Capture Ōwhango for 2027 Calendar
The Ōwhango Youth Photo Competition is giving young photographers the opportunity to showcase the landscapes, wildlife and community spirit of Ōwhango. In addition, winning images could appear in the 2027 Ōwhango Alive Calendar.
Ōwhango Alive is inviting young photographers to help capture the spirit of the community through the newly launched Ōwhango Alive Youth Photo Competition 2026.
The competition is open to anyone aged 25 years and under. As a result, young people from across the community can share their unique perspectives of Ōwhango and the surrounding area.
Participants are encouraged to photograph local landscapes, wildlife, community life and seasonal moments. Whether it is a frosty winter morning, a bush walk, a river scene or a local event, organisers want to celebrate the beauty and character of the place we call home.
One winning photographer will receive a $250 Photo Warehouse voucher, generously sponsored by KoruForm. Furthermore, Ōwhango Alive may include selected entries in the 2027 community calendar.
Organisers say the competition is about more than taking great photos.
“It’s a chance for young people to show Ōwhango through their own eyes. Whether it’s frosty mornings, bush walks, rivers, local events or everyday moments around town, we want to celebrate the beauty and character of the place we live.”
Importantly, entrants can use either a smartphone or a camera. Therefore, experience level is not important and everyone is encouraged to take part.

Submissions open on 1 July 2026 and close on 31 July 2026.

What We’re Looking For
Photos must be:
- High-resolution original images
- Taken in or around Ōwhango or the Ohinetonga Scenic Reserve
- Landscape orientation
- Non-AI-generated
In addition, photographers will receive credit whenever Ōwhango Alive uses their images in the calendar or promotional material.
