Ōwhango Alive Autumn Update 2026 | Community Conservation in Action
Welcome to the Ōwhango Alive Autumn 2026 newsletter – a snapshot of the ongoing conservation work, community involvement and environmental education happening in and around the Ohinetonga Scenic Reserve.
This season, our focus has included Whio Awareness Month, where local tamariki and volunteers have been actively learning about and protecting one of Aotearoa’s most precious native species. With fewer than 3,000 Whio remaining, predator control, habitat protection and community engagement remain at the heart of what we do.
From hands-on conservation work to supporting local schools and fostering environmental stewardship, Ōwhango Alive continues to bring people together to protect our backyard. This newsletter highlights the collective effort of our volunteers, supporters and community who make this work possible.
