Manunui School Education Day

Awesome day with students, teachers, family from Manunui School and Ōwhango Alive at the Ohinetonga Scenic Reserve today.

The focus was on the birds and the creatures that predate upon our precious manu.

The students were so enthusiastic, with lots of questions about the predator traps and what they catch.
We found rats, weasels, stoats and ferrets in the traps today – excellent – more birds protected!

The students were also very attentive with the 1 minute bird counts – the brief was to be silent for a whole minute, listening and looking for birds. A minute doesn’t sound very long, but when you are a group of 35 five and six year olds, it’s a long time! And they did brilliantly! 🙌

We also talked about litter and how that affects our precious manu, with plastics, glass and straws thrown around – message –
Put your rubbish in a bin or take it home to recycle 👍🏼.

All in all a great day – we Ōwhango Alivers so appreciate the opportunity to showcase our patch of paradise and what we all need to do to protect it.
