Inspiring Young Minds at Ōwhango Alive 🌿 | Student Engagement & Environmental Education

On Friday 13 March, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting 20 enthusiastic Year 10 students from Taumarunui High School for a hands-on day with Ōwhango Alive.

Joined by Clodagh and Lily from DOC, the group brought a fresh, youthful energy that made the day even more engaging and rewarding for everyone involved.

Despite some initial hesitation from a few students, the transformation by the end of the day was incredible. Their curiosity, participation, and positivity truly stood out — a testament to the power of immersive, real-world environmental education.

A special thank you to Melissa Brown for her kind words:

“Thank you so much for your support and teaching my students about Ōwhango Alive. I had some that didn’t want to come but when we got back to school they were glad they came and were buzzing.”

Feedback like this reinforces why we do what we do — creating meaningful experiences that connect young people with conservation, community, and the natural environment.

We’re thrilled the students left feeling inspired and energised, and we look forward to sharing photos from the day to support their reflections.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone involved!
