Going Nuts for Conservation: Thanks to Pic’s Peanut Butter and DOC

•

This week saw a slightly unusual but very important supply run – a trip to Ohakune to collect industrial quantities of Pic’s Peanut Butter from the Department of Conservation (DOC) depot. This isn’t your average pantry stock-up — this peanut butter is destined for bait stations as part of our ongoing predator control efforts.

A huge thank you to Danial Van der Lubbe from DOC for coordinating the pick-up, and to Pic’s Peanut Butter for their generous donation. Their support helps power our mission in the most literal sense – rats absolutely love peanut butter, making it an incredibly effective lure in our traps.

These sticky tubs will be put to good use across the Owhango Alive project area, helping us keep the pressure on introduced predators and protect the precious native species that call this area home.

Sometimes conservation work means getting your boots muddy. Other times, it means a road trip for a few buckets of peanut butter – either way, it’s all part of the mission.
